Sacramento-area
native Jerry Lopes has served as the CPCB Director since its first rehearsal
on Feb. 6, 1997. His teaching career in the Grant Joint
Union High
School District spanned 38 years and
continues today as a music educator at American
River College
in Sacramento.
In 1992, he
received the California Music Educators Association's prestigious Outstanding
Music Educator of the Year Award from the state's Capitol section. Mr. Lopes'
lengthy musical credentials include his long-time membership in the
Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, assistant director of the Sacramento Youth
Symphony and director of the American River College Orchestra.
Northern California music lovers will
recognize Mr. Lopes as a regular performer in the Camellia Symphony Orchestra
and the annual Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. He plays a wide range of instruments,
from strings to brass. Mr. Lopes has served as a site administrator for the
National High School Orchestra at venues nationwide and has participated in
community band tours at assorted international locales, most recently
"as band director to" Australia and New Zealand. He is affiliated
with numerous professional music and educational associations.
